Walking/Rambling

A Leisurely Country Pastime

Young people out walking in the country

There's something about going for a walk in the countryside that is almost magical. No matter what brought you to the point where you begin your journey, you will be able to benefit from it.

Enjoy Nature

One of the opportunities that rambling through the countryside affords is that of communing with nature. While walking leisurely through woods or meadows, an abundance of creatures and plants are present to add to your enjoyment. Stop and sit or stand quietly and nature's world comes alive for you. In the stillness, you will be able to hear things that you probably overlooked before. Whether it is the methodical gnawing on a prized nut by a squirrel, or the rush of the wind through the grass and trees, the silence is loud when you listen.

De-stress

Walking is a great way to get rid of the stress that builds up while you are going through the process of living your busy life. Not only do you benefit from exercising your body, you also benefit from exercising your mind. Take advantage of the situation and allow your mind to wander as you ramble through the countryside. Giving your mind permission to have free rein is a very effective way to relax. You might also find that you come up with fresh ideas to solve problems or start new projects.

Get in Touch With Your Feelings

This is a good time for exploring your emotions. Self-reflection is a means to find out what you are really feeling. It's so easy to get caught up with what everyone else says that you should feel about what is going on in your life and the world. But in solitude, it is possible to drop the expectations of the world, and discover what is right for yourself.

Look For Hidden Treasures

Make it a point to pay attention to your surrounding while you are walking, and you might be rewarded with hidden treasures. From coins to collectibles, valuable items have been lost or discarded and tend to resurface eventually. Think of old tools and implements that perhaps were laid aside when no longer needed or replaced. There is a market for such items that make your finds profitable. On the other hand is the intrinsic value of items that are meaningful personally. Take for instance, a wildflower that reminds you of the time when you were a child and took a walk with your father and picked wildflowers to present to your mother. There is no amount of money that can buy that memory for you, but it's free when you find a wildflower.

Get in Touch With Your Spiritual Self

No matter what your religious preferences, it is possible to get in touch with your spirituality while walking leisurely in the countryside. The stillness and quietness of the environment allows you to communicate with your higher power. The beauty and wonder of Nature abounds and calls to you to pay attention. Do you remember what the air smells like after it rains?

If you find yourself rambling about in the countryside, take advantage of the unique opportunities it affords you. You might walk away with a lot more than you thought possible when you take a walk on the quiet side of life.
