A Relaxing Country Pastime

Senior citizen making a watercolour painting

When you are out in the wide open spaces there are a lot of ways to stretch out and relax and find yourself at one with nature. Perhaps you are just looking for a creative outlet that you can release your pent up imagination on to and let the world see what you are capable of. It could be that you are just looking for a relaxing hobby that will allow you to get outside and just take in nature while you are doing something you can keep for the rest of your life. If you have any inkling at all towards investigating some artistic endeavors then you may want to consider watercolor painting as your outlet. Many people take up watercolor painting as a way of not only getting outside and spending some time in nature but also as a way of expressing themselves through art. Always remember that the key to enjoying yourself while painting is to not be too critical on yourself and stay within your abilities.

Have you ever sat on bench in a wide open park, or maybe stood on an outlook that looks over a large body of water, and been amazed at the colors in the sunset that you see? Many people find themselves inspired to create a work of art when they see a beautiful sunset while others find themselves just wanting to put what they see to canvas and create that sunset in their own way. A photograph is nice and a photograph will last forever but a watercolor painting you created on your own is something that will not only last forever but it is also something that your family can pass down to future generations and perhaps your work of art may inspire someone else to pick up a brush and express themselves.

Watercolors are probably the most versatile types of paints for beginners to start off with as they allow anyone to mix and match colors to see what they can come up with. If you take the time to experiment with the different mixes you can get with watercolors you may find yourself addicted to the game of getting the color on your canvas to match that color you see or the color you imagine in your mind. That is what watercolor painting is really all about. It is all about the ability to take the image you either see with your eyes, or the image you see with your mind, and get that image on to canvas with your own talents. If you allow yourself to be creative you would be amazed at what other doors will open up for you.

You may want to take some lessons on how to really get the results you are seeking with your watercolor painting and that may bring you an extra level of satisfaction with your results. Always remember that the idea behind art is to express yourself so that you are happy with what you see on the canvas, you are not doing it to make anyone happy but yourself. Take the time to put brush to canvas and see what you create. You may not only help yourself get closer to nature but you may find that creative outlet you have been seeking.
