A Civilised Country Pastime

Caravan on a country road

If you wish to explore your country and see what you haven't seen before, then you should consider purchasing your own caravan for caravanning with your family or friends. Caravanning vacation will let you take your time and move at your own pace and see all the beautiful sites of the wild nature of your country and enjoy the road trip.

Buying a caravan for a vacation is a very important and serious step, and with the many different caravans offered now, it is not very easy to make a choice. Here are some useful tips for choosing the caravan that is just right for you.

First of all, think about what you are intending to do with your caravan? Of course you are planning your trips in advance, and when you've come to a decision of buying a personal caravan, that means that you know at least a few first destinations you would want to visit. So think are you mainly planning to use your caravan on weekends for short getaways or are you planning long several week trips? Are you planning to travel with your family and kids, or with your friends, or alone with your dog? Is it going to be a very long trip to all the places you've wanted to visit? Or are you actually going to live in your caravan for the next few years? When you have answers on all these questions, you will be able to determine the key features of your caravan.

The second issue to consider is how the caravan will be towed. Unless you are going to buy a special car for you caravan, you should find a caravan that would work well with your car, and not be too heavy.

There are lots of caravans, big and small. Smaller caravans are, of course, much easier to tow, but if you are a confident driver and feel comfortable towing a long and heavy caravan, then it is for sure better to choose a bigger and more luxurious version of a caravan. Such large caravans usually have separate bedrooms and spacious bathrooms with toilet. If you want to choose a smaller caravan, then you also will have a lot of options. Small caravans are also a lot cheaper and will allow you to travel light. But if your caravan is very small, then you will have to share all the facilities with other caravanners in special holiday parks.

Before buying a caravan, think about features that you necessarily need and features that you want. This way you will be able to find an option that it most suitable in price. And decide, what is more important for you in the caravan, the space and comfort of a real home, or the economy of your trip when you travel light?

When caravanning, don't forget about the safety tips that will secure you during your trip and will make your journey more pleasant.
1. Don't forget to close all the cupboards
2. Keep windows and doors closed when moving.
3. Lock the refrigerator door
4. Don't leave any items on top of anything, as they will most likely fall off when you are driving.
5. Make sure that the caravan is well coupled with the car and that the towing will work correctly.
6. Connect the electrical plug between the car and the caravan.
7. Make sure the break lights on the caravan are working properly
8. Turn off the gas
9. Raise the steps before moving
10. Don't forget to release the brakes on the caravan.
