Camping
A Favourite Country Pastime

Camping is an excellent way to relax, spend quality time with
family or friends, and get reacquainted with the great outdoors.
While many people may think that camping requires a lot of complicated
and expensive equipment, this is not always the case. Although
some items are essential, camping can be quite simple. There
are several camping options, and it will be important to decide
what type of camping experience is desired. The type of experience
desired will determine what equipment is needed and the ideal
camping destination. Whatever the camping trip, it is ideal to
have essentials such as extra clothing and food, flashlight,
knife, map, compass, first aid kit, matches, emergency shelter,
and signal.
Recreational vehicle, or RV, camping is a popular method of
camping. RV's provide many of the luxuries of home while on the
road or in an outdoor setting. Campers, such as pop-up campers,
are also well-liked modes of camping. While many campers do not
provide all the luxuries of an RV, campers usually have kitchenettes,
tables, bathrooms and beds. Both RV's and campers are welcome
at many campgrounds, and these campgrounds usually provide hookups
for water and electricity for a nominal charge. Daily camping
rates can vary based on the type of camper or RV being used.
In general, campgrounds request that campers do not plan to stay
for more than 14 days.
Generally referred to as car camping, this type of camping
is for those who want to get away from the usual campground.
Those who enjoy car camping usually use a tent or small camper
for shelter. The tent or small camper is setup within a few feet
of the car. Car campers often camp along dirt roads in heavily
wooded forest services areas in which camping is allowed. Hiking
and fishing are common interests of those that favor car camping.
Car camping allows campers to experience the feel of the wilderness
without sacrificing too many comforts. For example, since coolers,
grills and portable stoves can be utilized with this type of
camping, the types of meals available to the car camper are endless.
In some areas, car camping may be enjoyed free of charge, but
a fee is usually required.
Backcountry camping is the most rugged type of camping, and
a novice camper should be accompanied by a more experienced camper
on these types of camping excursions. With this type of camping,
the camper packs all of his or her necessities, such as food,
clothing, and shelter, in a backpack. Camp is made somewhere
along the trail, usually at predetermined locations. In some
cases, the camper may use a shelter along the trail for sleeping
quarters. These types of camping trips can be overnight trips
or extended trips, such as a few weeks. It is important when
planning a backpacking trip to be familiar with the area and
leave an itinerary with a friend or family member. In general,
the only fee associated with this type of camping is a parking
fee
